What if there were no psychometrics?: constructs, complexity, and measurement.
McGrath (2005/this issue) has published a very significant article; it is significant because it examines the substantive issue of construct validity in a simple and informative way, noting the confusions apparent in how constructs and their variables are defined, used, and interpreted within the domain of personality and individual differences. This is a careful, thoughtful, article that quiet...

متن کاملOnce there were twenty.
Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases play a central role in protein synthesis by covalently linking the correct amino acid to the correct tRNA (1). Each aminoacyl-tRNA is then carried to the ribosome where it interacts with the cognate trinucleotide codon on the mRNA and transfers the amino acid onto a growing polypeptide chain. Work on tRNAs and aminoacyltRNA synthetases from bacteria, fungi, plants, an...
متن کاملThere are no Barker arrays having more than two dimensions
Davis, Jedwab and Smith recently proved that there are no 2-dimensional Barker arrays except of size 2×2. We show that the existence of a (d+1)-dimensional Barker array implies the existence of a d-dimensional Barker array with the same number of ±1 elements. We deduce that there are no Barker arrays having more than two dimensions, as conjectured by Dymond in 1992.
